How the estimator works
Behind the range is a simple, transparent pricing model:
- A base amount for mobilization, base preparation and setting (precast) or forming and finishing (poured).
- A rate per riser, scaled for width — a 6 ft step uses roughly 40 % more than a 4 ft step.
- A landing, if you add one, scaled for width.
- Removal of the old steps, if needed.
- Railings priced per linear foot, using the slope length of your stair plus the landing.
- Quartz resurfacing priced by the area of treads, risers and landing, plus edge preparation per riser.
- Minimum job charges, because small jobs carry the same setup costs as bigger ones.
Every rate comes from one pricing file built from published Ottawa and Ontario sources, reviewed October 2026. The concrete steps cost guide explains where the money goes.
Measuring your own steps
- Count the risers — every vertical face from the walkway to the door sill.
- Measure the width edge to edge across the treads.
- Measure the total rise from the walkway to the top of the door sill. You don’t need it for the estimator, but it’s the number we start with on site.
- Note the landing — is there a flat area at the door, and could the storm door swing over it?
Then send the design. Your choices travel with the request, so we arrive already knowing what you have in mind.
