How we price, and why we publish it
Every range on this site comes from published Ottawa and Ontario sources — contractor price pages, ready-mix plant price lists and cost guides — cross-checked and turned into realistic bands for our market. You’ll find the sources listed at the bottom of each cost page.
Three things are always true:
- Ranges, not promises. We publish a low and a high because real entrances vary. Your written quote is a single number, after a free site visit.
- Before HST. Every figure is before tax.
- Nothing hidden in the low end. The low end assumes a straightforward site. Hard access, deep demolition, drainage fixes or permits push toward the high end — and we’ll tell you which applies to your house.
What moves the price of steps
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Width | Wider steps mean more concrete or a bigger precast unit, and more forming |
| Total height (risers) | Each riser adds material and work; past three risers you also need a handrail |
| Landing | A landing the door can swing over is a big share of the concrete |
| Removal | Breaking out old poured steps is more work than lifting old precast |
| Base and support | Steps with more than two risers need code-required support; poor soil needs more base |
| Access | Boom-truck or ready-mix truck reach, overhead wires, tight side yards |
| Finish and railings | Exposed aggregate, colour or quartz; aluminum, steel or glass railings |
